05 Fire-fighters who had gone to combat the bush fire occurred in Victoria State in Australia on 02nd June 1998 had died from fire. 04th May in 1999 has been named as International Fire Fighters’ Day in order to commemorate that event. After that, 04th May of every year is commemorated as Fire Fighters’ Day by the world. For the first time in Sri Lanka, International Fire Fighters’ day had been ceremonially held on 14th May at Independence Square.

At this event, a new web site has been commenced for Fire Fighting Unit of Sri Lanka.

For this event Hon. State Minister of State Ministry of Local Government, Janaka Wakkubura, Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Additional Secretaries and the officers of Fire Fighting Army Unit of Colombo Municipal Council including Chief Officer of that Unit , Mr. P.D.K.A. Wilson had also participated for this.
